How Can severe Fungal Infection In The Vagina Be Treated?

I am from India but presently in London for a week. My wife was using LULIFIN CREAM for fungal infection in the vaginal area, on the thighs. Can you guide whether lulifin cream is l likely to be available in London or some substitute cream which may be easily available.

Hello,

Thank you for your query. I understand your concerns.

I don’t think Lulifin cream would be available in London for you buy directly from a pharmacy. I worked in UK for 10 years until last year, and I did not see this in a pharmacy where you could buy without a doctor’s prescription.

In UK, almost all the pharmacies stock Clotrimazole 500 mg vaginal pessary. This is a vaginal tablet which is inserted into the vagina. This is a once only dose. This is used for fungal infection of the vagina. In addition to this your wife can also use Clotrimazole 1% cream 2-3 times /day on her vulva /external genitalia and inner thighs.

Ask your wife to avoid using soaps on her genitalia; advise her to wash just with plain water. Avoid tight fitting inner garments or trousers.

Within a week she should see improvement. If her symptoms do not improve she can try oral Fluconazole 150 mg, this is also a single dose. This is also easily available in the pharmacies.

Even if this does not help, your wife should make an appointment to see a GP, who can then do a vaginal swab and send it for culture and sensitivity. Medicines are then prescribed based on the result of the swab.

I hope this answer has been helpful to you.
